Spotted in the wild: Bristol Fighter

News

My daily grind along the M4 was enlivened today by following a rare Bristol Fighter on my way home.

Despite living within a short walk of the (rather derelict looking) Bristol service centre, this is only the second time I have ever seen one.

Bristol cars are something of an enigma and I must confess to knowing very little about the Fighter other than it has a tweaked Dodge Viper V10 engine and gullwing doors, and if I remember correctly some requirement to be able to ford a certain depth of water.

I did manage to grab a couple of pictures with my camera phone (sorry for the poor quality), and one thing that really struck me was that the car seemed a little lopsided. The bodywork on the right side of the car looked a little higher than on the left, and I kept looking at it to see if the was just odd suspension settings but no, it was clearly the bodywork itself. Also note that the central bars on the tail lights don't line up.

I would hope that this is because of the hand-built construction of the car rather than any potential twist put on the chassis by what is a rather torquey engine? I think for me a Morgan Aeromax would be a much better choice for those wanting a slightly eccentric British sports car.

A short surf of YouTube turned up this video of a Fighter test drive:
