McLaren teases an even more extreme P1 with the P1 GTR

News

Barring its weekend equipment, the P1 GTR will be the most extreme McLaren ever.

Now that the P1 has thoroughly rearranged what we though was possible with a road car, McLaren has announced it will take things a step further with a track-focused version to be called the P1 GTR.

McLaren is withholding technical details, but expect more power, less weight, slick tires and massive downforce thanks in part to that massive rear wing. The McLaren P1 GTR design concept will debut at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, and will go into production in June 2015 after the last of the 375 road-going P1s is completed.

Like Ferrari’s FXX program, the cost of a P1 GTR will include access to an assortment of driving events and training from some very intelligent and knowledgeable from McLaren’s F1 team.
