The Last Lap Before the Red Flag at the Nurburgring 24

If you followed our Nurburging 24 coverage last year, you might remember our friends at Fim Rennsport. Unfortunately, they DNF'd in the 2012 race, but they returned to this year's race with a new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racer. This footage was shot on the last lap before the race was red flagged for over nine hours due to heavy rain and thick fog. Racing conditions don't get much worse than this. The Fim Porsche made it as high as 46th overall, but a broken half shaft brought their race to a heartbreaking end with only four hours left.

Drive Cult are back in Nürburg for the 40th running of the fascinating Nürburgring 24H marathon in the Eifel mountains. There will be regular updates to this blog following each of the sessions and throughout the race, so check back often for more news and photos!

Nürburgring 24 Through an iPhone

I took this video last May when I flew halfway around the word to meet up with the European Drive Cult bureau for the Nürburgring 24. It was more for personal posterity at the time and I was initially hesitant to post it here because of the relative low quality, but throughout the year, it was something I kept coming back to. It’s nothing more than a few spliced together clips taken with my iPhone, but the more I’ve watched it, the more I feel that it really captures the spirit of the event. No music. No fancy editing. Just loud racecars on the Nürburgring. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

FIM Rennsport at the Nürburgring 24

Back in May, the entire Drive Cult contingency gathered at the Nürburgring to root on our pals Alessandro Cremascoli and Massimo Colnago at Fim Rennsport in the Nürburgring 24 hour race. They put forth an amazing effort, getting their Porsche 911 GT3 up to seventh in SP10, but unfortunately their race was ultimately cut short when they were hit by an Aston Martin during the night. Despite the outcome, we had a great time following them throughout the race.

Now they’ve released this fantastic video documenting their race. All the dialogue is in German, but there’s still plenty of great footage to be enjoyed. My personal favorite has got to be the in-car shots in which the Drive Cult sticker is clearly visible on the dashboard!

Onboard at the Nurburgring 24 hours with FIM Rennsport’s Alessandro Cremascoli

Normal service will be resumed at Drive Cult in a few weeks, but right now we are all still buzzing from our trip to the Nurburgring 24 hours.  You will recall that the SP10 class Porsche 911 GT3 of FIM Rennsport proudly carried the Drive Cult  logos during the race. Here we have some onboard footage of the car, showing the final lap of driver Alessandro Cremascoli's first stint in the car. The tyres are clearly a little past their best as there is a very lurid oversteer moment at the beginning of the video. Alessandro has also posted a video of his night stint here. Alessandro prefers the night time as he was 21 seconds faster than in the daytime lap.

Sadly as we have already reported the car did not finish the race following a collision with an Aston Martin during the night.

We would like to thank Alessandro and FIM motorsport for letting us sticker up their car and for these videos.
