2010 Volkswagen Polo GTI

News

The Polo GTI has never really been a hot hatch that stacked up against its rivals. The hot subcompact arena has long been dominated my the likes of Mini and Renault, but that's likely to change when VW unleashes twin charged 2010 Polo GTI.

Now that VW has pumped up the Golf GTI, they're now comfortable in liberating some more performance from the Polo GTI without worry of performance overlap. The VW turbocharged/supercharged engine will provide 178 bhp and 184 lb. ft. of torque to the front wheels. Sixty will come in a scant 6.9 seconds.

And it doesn't end there. The Polo GTI will come standard with VW's superb seven-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox and a and XDS front differential. Other GTI standard fare such as 17 inch telephone dial wheels, flat bottom steering wheel and tartan seats will be offered. Should be quite a stormer then.

Now the big question. Will it be available here in the US? Well, we don't know yet. VW announced in the middle of last year that they would be launching the Polo on these shores by 2011. They don't have a history of holding out on us when it comes to GTIs, and there's little doubt that a Polo GTI would provide a good halo for the launch of the Polo line in the US.
