Return of the Audi Quattro

News

The original Ur-Quattro turns 30 this year and Audi has honored the occasion with a new Quattro concept. All we can say is build it!

Audi had what was probably the sleeper hit of the Paris Auto Show with their Quattro Concept. It's a thoroughly modern remake that pays homage to the original without being overtly retro. All the Ur-Quattro visual cues are present; the blistered wheel arches, the short wheelbase and the distinctive roof line.

It's underpinned by a shortened version of the RS5 chassis, but instead of the V8 used in the RS5 the Quattro stays true to the original and uses a turbocharged five cylinder. It's same motor found in the TTRS, but this time it puts out 408 hp through a six speed gear box to all four wheels (obviously). A 40-60 torque split between the front and rear and the same sport differential from the S4 should ensure that balance is on the fun side.

It's light too. The use of aluminum and carbon fiber body panels and lightweight bucket seats has kept weight below 3000 lbs. This translates to a power to weight ratio that's on par with the R8 V10 FSi.  0-60 comes in 3.9 seconds.

The Audi MMI driver interface is present and has a special function in the new Quattro. In sport mode, it's able to provide rally co-driver style pace notes using GPS. Hopefully, it will also be able to shout them at you in a German accent.

It's only a concept at this point, but with enough public interest, a limited production run could be possible. Start emailing Audi now!
