The DTM is Germany's top flight touring car series and for decades it has provided some thrilling moments with some of the world's best driver's behind the wheel. If you've followed the series in recent years then you may have felt that something was missing. Audi and Mercedes have made up the field for years, but it always felt like there was a void left by BMW. That will all change in 2012.
BMW has announced their plan to put a greater emphasis on production car racing in the coming years and the DTM program will be the centerpiece. As you may have guessed, the M3 will be representing the brand in the series, and BMW has promised that it will be competitive straight out of the box. It will join the M3 GT2, Z4M GT3 and 320i touring car in BMW's racing program.
