Liberace’s Golden Cadillac Is For Sale

Cultism

Own a piece of American ridiculousness for the price of an Audi R8.

Long before Nelly chromed his Hummer H1 and before “bling” became a common part of the English lexicon, there was Liberace. The eccentric pianist was the highest paid entertainer in the world in the 50s, 60s and 70s, and he wasn’t afraid to let people know.

One of the ways he did that was with this gold plated Cadillac. Yes, that's real 24-karat gold and not gold paint. The work on this 1931 Cadillac Golfer’s Drop Hear Coupe was carried out over a three year period in the 1970s by Jack Smith of Kansas, who also plated the exterior door handles in silver. The dash is also gold plated and the interior is covered in white leather, presumably unwillingly donated by baby manatees. It’s powered by a 5.7 liter V8 through a three-speed manual gearbox.

The car previously spent 12 years on display at a German museum, who claimed it to be Liberace’s car. Bidding starts at £85,000 at Sandown Park horse racing track in Surrey, England on September 17th.
