Newly Redesigned Subaru WRX to Debut in LA

News

Everyone’s favorite rally car for the road is about to get its most extreme revamp to date.

Automotive News is reporting that the next Subaru WRX/STi will go on sale as soon as 2014 and could debut in production trim at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

Subaru is likely to want to put more clear air between their performance models and the Impreza lineup. As a result, the WRX/STi models are likely to drop the Impreza moniker all together, and styling will be heavily inspired by the WRX Concept (pictured above) shown earlier this year at the New York Auto Show. Expect this to be a sleeker, more mature WRX than we’ve seen in the past.

Power will likely still come from the company’s 2.5 liter turbocharged boxer four cylinder in various states of tune. Automotive News is saying around 265 horsepower, but that seems like a low-ball estimate to us. Subaru’s signature all-wheel drive will be retained, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it included some electronic torque vectoring black magic to give it better on-road feel.
