Aston Martin Unveils V12 Zagato

News

It's a new collaboration from Aston and Zagato, and this time it's going racing.

Aston Martin's long running relationship with Italian design house Zagato has produced some interesting cars, but perhaps none as striking as this; the V12 Vantage based V12 Zagato. One of the things that perhaps every Zagato Aston has had in common is that their looks have divided opinion and this one is no different. It's definitely one of those cars you either love or hate. I personally love it.

The cartoonishly enlarged grill and double bubble roof are both Zagato hallmarks. They seem to work well with the car as a whole, which is a riot of interesting curves and angles. The most interesting of all has got to be the roofline profile, which forms a continuous arc from the base of the wind shield to the top of the rear valance. And just look at that rear diffuser!

Once you process all the interesting things going on with the hand crafted aluminum body, you'll notice some very racy elements to this car. It's got a rather serious looking roll cage and sliding Lexan side windows. Other race modifications include fully adjustable Multimatic DSSV Dampers and a 120ltr endurance racing fuel tank. The 6.0 liter V12 has been left untouched, but I don't think anyone will be complaining about 510 hp.

Officially, the car pictured (which took top honors at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este this past weekend) is a concept. It's supposed to be a sort of middle ground between the road car and the race car. Aston is entering two V12 Zagatos in the 24 hours of the Nürburgring and a few other VLN rounds leading up to it. Drive Cult will see it in action when we're at the N24 in late June. We. Can't. Wait.
