LA Auto Show Preview: Porsche Set to Unveil New Mid-Engined Model

News

The 911 GTS and Speedster make their US debut next week along with mid-engined mystery car.

There's been a lot of chatter about what Porsche plans to unveil in LA next week. Whatever it is, it should be exciting. Porsche announced today that it would be revealing a mid-engine sports car alongside the American debut of the 911 GTS, which will slot into the lineup below the GT3, and the limited production 911 Speedster.

From the Porsche Press Release:

"Stuttgart presents a world premiere and two US premieres at the Los Angeles Auto Show. A mid-engine sports car which will be unveiled during a press conference at 10:55 a.m. on November 17 is right in the spotlight. The world premiere will be flanked by new 911 models, the 911 GTS and the 911 Speedster. With these three thoroughbred sports cars, Porsche crowns an outstanding year in the US market."

Speculation is currently centered around two models. One possibility is that it will be the new entry level sub-Boxster model, rumored to be called the Cajun. However, it's more likely the we'll be seeing a Cayman Clubsport, which will be priced above the Cayman S (pictured above) and feature several weight-saving measures and a slight power increase a la Boxster Spyder. Whatever it turns out to be, Drive Cult will be tweeting live at the LA Auto Show as the unveiling happens.
