Honda Aims to Make the Next Civic Type R the Fastest FWD Car Around the Nürburgring.

The first turbocharged Civic Type R will produce 275 horsepower.

Not content to the let just the fancy car makers wave their privates around over Nürburgring lap times, Honda got into the fold at the Frankfurt Motor Show today when they announced their ambitions to make the next Civic Type R the fastest front-wheel-drive car around the Nürburgring when it goes on sale in 2015.

There was no new Civic Type R on display, but Honda has released this moody, black and white video of next Type R putting in some hot laps at the famed German strip of tarmac with Honda WTCC driver Gabrielle Tarquini at the wheel. Honda also announced that the new 2.0 liter turbo charged engine (Is it just me or is it weird to hear a waste gate chirping away on a Honda?) would produce 275 horsepower.

Through the camouflage, we can see that the new Type R will be based on the Civic five door which is a departure from the traditional three door type Rs. Aero additions like the giant rear spoiler appear to be inspired by the previous generation Mugen Civic Type R. Lastly, if you’re reading this outside of Europe, don’t start saving for one as it’s like to be a European only model.
