On the heels of the Geneva Auto Show in Switzerland, images have been leaked of a new Ferrari 599 Hybrid right out in the open, no teasing silky cover or anything. Appearently what makes it a hybrid is a version of Ferrari's KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) that had originally been developed for use in Formula 1, and was used by a few teams in 2009. The system is designed to store energy using a motor/generator under braking. Then later that energy can be released by the press of a button to provide boost lasting only a few seconds.
It's not yet appearent how similar this system is to the one found in the new Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. It does not appear to be a hardcore racer like the Porsche, so it makes me wonder why this technology is showing up here and not in the 458 Italia.
