A car boot sale aimed at fans of old cars and vintage clothing alike.
Think of car boot sales and you probably imagine getting up at some ungodly hour on a Sunday morning to wander round a field looking at dodgy DVDs being sold out at the back of a ten year old Vauxhall Vectra. To be honest it’s the type of thing I do my level best to avoid.
Wayne Hemmingway’s vintage organisation decided to stage a rather different car boot sale in one of London’s hipster hangouts, the South Bank. The Classic Car Boot sale was staged over the two days and all the cars and van pitches were for classic cars offering range of vintage clothing and period items from the 20th century.
While my wife rummaged through the racks of vintage clothing, I checked out some of the cars being used. It was not an event for concours-wining Aston Martins, and indeed a Rolls Royce Camargue looked rather incongruous there, but there was plenty of cool machinery on display. A Ford Falcon wagon looked a very cool alternative to a Volvo 240 for hipsters with a large amount of goods to transport.
VW buses were in abundance, as you might expect, but there was also an immaculate Porsche 356 and a highly modified Alfa GTV almost hidden under the bric-a-brac.
Many of the attendees took the opportunity to dress up for the event and the stools did offer lots of opportunity to find that perfect outfit for the Goodwood Revival later in the year.
The Vintage team plan to take the concept around the country with further events planned for Glasgow and Morecombe later in the year.
