Austin, TX will host a round of the F1 World Championship starting in 2012.
Great news for American F1 fans today. It was announced that Austin, TX would host a round of the F1 World Championship starting in 2012, and it will be held on a brand new track. F1 overlord Bernie Ecclestone had this to say: "For the first time in the history of Formula One in the United States, a world-class facility will be purpose-built to host the event."
The contract is for ten years, and personally I couldn't be happier about this. Austin is easily one of my favorite cities in America. Not much is know about the facility right now, but it has been confirmed that the track will be about three miles in length and ten miles away from downtown Austin. Not sure what round it will be either, but I would suggest not having the same weekend as South by Southwest or any University of Texas football home games.
