McLaren MP4-12C Development Video

McLaren release a video of their progress in developing the forthcoming MP4-12C supercar.

McLaren's development of their first road car since 1992 is going full bore, and they've released a video showing that the program is progressing with typical McLaren efficiency. The MP4-12C is aimed squarely at Ferrari's 458 Italia and Lamborghini's Gallardo LP560-4 and is McLaren's first road car since the legendary F1.

The MP4-12C has a lot riding on its shoulders. Ron Dennis left his full-time position as F1 team manager to oversee the development of the MP4-12C, and it will be the middle model in what will eventually be a three car line-up. The MP4-12C is packed with tech. In lieu of a traditional chassis or carbon monocoque, it will feature a first-of-its-kind in a road car carbon fiber tub, onto which all the other important bits will be attached. This includes the in-house developed 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 producing around 600 hp mated to a six speed dual clutch gear box.

The exterior was designed by American designer Frank Stephenson (mk1 Mini Cooper, Ferrari 599 GTB) and is perhaps best described as understated. At least in terms of its competition. The only problem I foresee is owners will probably have to write "MP4-12C" on their hands to remind them what it's called when asked.
