Mini unveils a Miata fighting concept roadster

Mini looks to Italy for inspiration for it’s surprisingly pretty roadster concept, The Mini Superleggera Vision.

Well, this is a bit interesting. The Mini Superleggera Vision is a concept roadster collaboration between Mini and Italian design house Touring Superleggera, and is set to be unveiled at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Mini says this sporty roadster combines “modern Britishness with Italian flair.” It uses the high-end materials and custom bodywork typically associated with coachwork construction, and is powered by an all-electric drivetrain. Overall, it cuts a very cohesive profile, and honestly, the more I look at it, the more I like it. Whatever the case, it’s a quantum leap over the cobbled together previous generation Mini Cooper Roadster.

There’s no indication the Superleggera Vision will land in showrooms, but don’t be surprised to see something similar go on sale in a few years time. A well-sorted, sporty roadster would fit in well with Mini brand values, and could take a sizeable chunk out of next generation MX-5/Miata sales.

We just think it’s nice to see Mini making something new that’s not a bloated crossover. What do you think?
