We knew McLaren's P1 would be quick, but 7:04 is incredible for a car with air conditioning and a stereo.
Earlier this month there was a peppering of shots across the internet of the McLaren P1 putting in some hot laps at the Nürburgring. Now, according to Bridge to Gantry, an anonymous source is claiming the P1 posted a scarcely believable time of 7:04 and that McLaren would soon be making the time public. However, a second source now claims that McLaren would not be making the time public, because the goal was a sub-seven minute lap time.
The current road car record holder is still the Radical SR8 LM (though many would dispute its road car credentials) which put in a 6:48 and the overall record, set way back in 1983, is Stefan Bellof’s 6:11 in a Porsche 956. Will McLaren be returning to try and improve on their time? Watch this space.
