The McLaren hype machine marches on in the hottest place on the planet.
McLaren is celebrating its 50th birthday this week. That combined with the sales success of their first road car in nearly 20 years, the 12c, and the imminent arrival of the successor to the F1, the P1, McLaren is having a big year.
In the lead up to the P1 launch, McLaren has been steadily releasing new videos and other information on this amazing car on an almost weekly basis. The latest of these finds the P1 undergoing some final tests in Death Valley, California to see how P1 copes with temperatures approaching 130°F (54°C). I was house sitting in Death Valley a few years ago, and I can personally attest that it’s really freaking hot. You can’t stand in one place for too long without your shoes melting to the pavement.
After successfully not melting their hypercar, McLaren takes the P1 to Buttonwillow Raceway near Los Angeles for some hot laps. It’s easy to view marketing ploys like this from a cynical perspective, but there really is some gorgeous imagery here to be appreciated.
